Kelly Golightly - Assistant CoachI was born in Arkansas and grew up in McAllen, Texas. I swam competitively for 14 years in South Texas. I was also involved with dance, gymnastics, tennis and golf.I graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and a minor in Health. I received my Master’s degree in Kinesiology from Texas Woman’s University. I have been teaching Elementary Physical Education for almost 10 years. I began teaching swimming when I was 15 at the local country club. While in college I also taught swimming lessons and water aerobics. I spent 2 summers working with children with special needs. I have been teaching swimming lessons for over 24 years. I got married in 1988 and moved to the Dallas area where I taught aerobics and managed a Health club. I have also worked with many recreation departments in many cities in the metroplex teaching swimming, basketball, tennis and golf. Almost 5 years ago we moved here from the Dallas area. My husband James was transferred back to his home town of Tyler. I had always wanted to live in East Texas and was thrilled at the opportunity to live and work in Tyler. I have a beautiful daughter, Blake and a wonderful lab named Sarge. Blake began swimming last summer and has continued with Metro this year. I am thrilled about her involvement with the club team. Swimming is the greatest sport for developing important life-long skills such as responsibility, dedication and discipline. Last school year I was the head swimming coach at Pine Tree High School in Longview. I learned about Tyler Swim Team through a friend and I contacted Matt and Janet last summer and was able to work with Janet at Tyler Tennis & Swim with the summer league team. Once the summer program was over I pursued a continuing job with Metro. TST Board of Directors
